Class Descriptions
Hatha Yoga What most people think of as simply
"yoga" is
actually hatha yoga. This class combines breathwork
(pranayama)
with a variety of physical postures (asanas) and deep relaxation
(savasana). Asanas are held for a number of breaths to allow
students the opportunity to open and release into the pose.
All
levels are welcome.
Beginner
Hatha Yoga
Designed especially for those new to yoga, this class
includes
detailed instruction so students can learn breathing techniques,
correct alignment in asanas and the basics of yoga philosophy.
We
will concentrate on a limited number of asanas each class, giving
beginners time to fully explore the pose. Questions are
welcome
and discussions are encouraged. This is a great place to
start or
get a refresher.
Gentle Yoga
Breathwork, meditation and gentle mat stretches make this our
most
relaxing class. We'll stay on the floor, slowly moving into
asanas
that open the hips and release the low back while melting away tension.
This is a good class for beginners, those with physical
limitations,
or anyone who needs relief from stress.
All-Level Flow
Vinyasa (flow) synchronizes movement with breath.
Students
transition smoothly from one asana to the next on an inhale or an
exhale, creating a practice that feels like dancing.
This
class always includes sun salutations. Vinyasa is suitable
for
those who would like a more active practice. The beginner flow class
includes detailed instruction and is suitable for those new to vinyasa
and those who prefer a slower-paced practice. Some hatha yoga
experience is recommended but not necessary.
Active Flow
Our intermediate-level vinyasa class is a fast-paced class
based
on Ashtanga-styled sun salutations. Students will get to
explore
challenging asanas as they build core strength and flexibility.
This class is suitable for those with yoga experience and
athletes. Be prepared to sweat! Bring a towel and a
water
bottle.
Slow Flow
If you
like the flowing movements of vinyasa but prefer a relaxing practice,
the gentle flow class is for you. We will move slowly through
gentle sun salutations and add flow to floor stretches.
Moving
meditations will be included. This is a good class for beginners who
prefer to start right into a vinyasa practice.
Kids Yoga
Kids love
to do yoga! This class is designed especially for kids aged 5
-
12. Asanas are combined with storytelling, games and other
activities that make yoga fun. Kids develop strength and
balance
while learning to focus. Partner poses teach kids to work
together. 30 minute classes are $5.
Teen Yoga
Today's
teens struggle with grades, friendships, competitive sports, body image
and self-esteem. Yoga gives teens a chance to chill out and
reconnect with their bodies. Stress decreases and confidence
increases as posture improves. Some might even crack a smile!
Classes for ages 13 - 18 last one hour and cost $7.
Prenatal Yoga
Pregnancy is a joyful experience but brings physical and
emotional changes which can be stressful. Prenatal yoga,
which
adapts traditional asanas to suit pregnancy, helps to strengthen, tone,
and relax expectant moms and prepares them for childbirth and
motherhood. Calming breath is emphasized.
Chair Yoga
A gentle
yoga class especially for those who, due to age, disability,
weight challenges or limited mobility, find it difficult to
get
down on on the floor. Students enjoy the benefits of relaxation and
increased flexibility from practicing yoga while sitting in a chair.
The class will focus on breathing, simple movements,
stretches
and meditation.
Stitch and
Stretch
Do you knit or crochet? Join Debbie on the 1st and
3rd
Thursdays of every month with your needles and your yoga mat.
We'll show off our projects, help each other with tricky
stitches, and enjoy some light conversation, then end the evening with
a short yoga practice to loosen up those tight knitting muscles.
$5 cost is waived if you bring a snack to share.
